Abstract

Background: the assessment of the chronic patient´s satisfaction at care received is a topic with growing interest, since it allows carrying out the assessment of the resources used in looking after the patients. Also, important clinical implications are derived from it.
Objective:
to assess the diabetic elderly ‘satisfaction at the use of glucometers.
Methods:
a cross-sectional, descriptive research was conducted from September 2014 to May 2015 in Hermanos Cruz health center. The elderly diabetic population from doctor´s office 22, 24, and 48 that belong to the health center named above was the universe. The sample included 85 of those patients who use glucometer. A SATIGLU questionnaire made and validated in Spain in 2013, but adjusted to Cuban context was used, as well as, the review of familiar and relatives medical histories. Quantitative and qualitative techniques were utilized. Descriptive statistics was used too. Data obtained were processed and presented in absolute numbers and percentage.
Results:
the 60 to 64 age group, female sex, patients with type 2diabetes prevailed, and the majority declared upsets with the use portable glucometer. However, they were satisfied with the device.
Conclusions: the use of glucometer demonstrated usefulness when dealing with patients with diabetes mellitus in health care at primary level.
