Nursing intervention in young adults with type 1 diabetes according to Kristen Swanson
Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease in which sugar levels are increased for a long period of time in the body, according to the definition offered by the World Health Organization. It assures that we are reaching a pandemic situation.
Objective: To evaluate the nursing intervention in young adults with type 1 diabetes according to Kristen Swanson.
Methods: A pre-experimental study was carried out at the Mártires de Cuito Health Center, Bie province in Angola, from October 2021 to October 2022. Theoretical methods used were: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic, systematization, inductive-deductive and systemic-structural; the empirical ones: documentary analysis, questionnaire and open interview; and mathematicians-statisticians.
Results: The analysis presented, allow to corroborate that a high proportion of young adults with diabetes type 1 received unacceptable care from the nurses, with a 53.48%. At the end of the training program, the care of young adults with type 1 diabetes showed that 72.09% received acceptable care.
Conclusions: The Nursing intervention was effective in increasing information through the improvement course aimed at Nursing professionals on the care of young adults with type 1 diabetes based on Kristen Swanson's theory.
