Treatment of the equine spastic foot with the technique of Hsu: a three-year- study
Abstract
Background: cerebral palsy is a major concern for families. It is the commonest physical disability in childhood and the most frequent cause of consultation in pediatric orthopedics due to neurological disorder.
Objective: to evaluate the technique of Hsu in the treatment of the equine spastic foot in patients with cerebral palsy.
Methods: a longitudinal and descriptive study was conducted in 29 patients diagnosed with equine spastic foot who were treated with the technique of Hsu in the service of Orthopedics at the Pediatric University Hospital Eduardo Agramonte Piña, from May 2011 to May 2014 in order to evaluate the results obtained with this technique.
Results: male patients, bilateral deformity, children under five years old and perinatal etiology prevailed. The results were satisfactory in most of the cases and the complications were all smaller.
Conclusions: the technique of Hsu is a good therapeutic option in patients with equine spastic foot and cerebral palsy, since it is a simple procedure with scarce complications and good surgical results.
