Abstract

Se realizó un estudio epidemiológico, observacional, analítico, longitudinal y retrospectivo de casos y controles, con niños menores de cinco años con infecciones respiratorias agudas en la comuna Borgne, Departamento Norte, República de Haití, durante el período enero a diciembre de 2001, con el objetivo de identificar factores de riesgo presentes en las infecciones respiratorias agudas en este grupo de edad. La incidencia de las infecciones respiratorias agudas en el centro de salud Borgne fue del 21.2 %. Predominó la asociación de la IRA y el hacinamiento, la desnutrición proteico energética, la no lactancia materna durante el primer año de vida. No se asoció el sexo y el hábito de fumar.
