Abstract

El dolor, aunque es fácilmente identificable y reconocido, resulta difícil de conceptuar y constituye un importante impulsor de las ciencias de la salud. Por otro lado, el dolor agudo postoperatorio en particular, es predecible ya que se origina de una agresión planificada deliberadamente, es por ello que responde a las expectativas de los pacientes quirúrgicos y puede ser prevenido para lograr una rápida recuperación, libre de complicaciones. El objetivo de esta revisión es definir la modalidad sensorial, analizar los conceptos erróneos y mitos que rodean la terapéutica del dolor, los factores que incrementan su severidad, la repercusión del mismo, así como los métodos para su objetiva evaluación y clasificación.
