Cáncer metastásico de origen primario desconocido

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio para caracterizar pacientes fallecidos por cáncer metastásico de origen primario desconocido durante el quinquenio 1998-2002 en el Hospital Provincial Clínico Quirúrgico Docente Manuel Ascunce Domenech de Camagüey. El universo ascendió a 57 fallecidos. Los principales síntomas fueron astenia, anorexia, dolor, pérdida de peso, náusea, disnea, palidez, tos, fiebre, vómitos y hemoptisis, en más del 50 % de los fallecidos. Las metástasis fueron fundamentalmente viscerales, en el hígado (40, 4 %) y pulmón (31, 7 %); además aparecieron en hueso (22, 8 %) y encéfalo (15, 8 %). El sitio primario del cáncer se conoció durante la necropsia en el 86 % se ubicó en páncreas, estómago, próstata, riñón y colon principalmente. El adenocarcinoma moderadamente diferenciado representó la variante histológica más frecuente. La supervivencia en la mayoría no sobrepasó los 12 meses.
