Comportamiento de la atresia esofágica en Camagüey

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo con el objetivo de caracterizar el comportamiento de la atresia esofágica en la provincia Camagüey, se incluyeron todos los niños nacidos con esa enfermedad entre los años 1995 y 2000. La incidencia fue de 1 por cada 2194 nacidos vivos, para un total de 27 pacientes, de ellos, 25 presentaron una fístula traqueoesofágica distal, para un 92, 5 %. Se encontró que los niños con peso inferior a 1800 g tuvieron una alta mortalidad, influenciada por la necesidad de ventilación mecánica y por la presencia de malformaciones asociadas. La mortalidad global fue de 40, 7 %. La supervivencia de esta enfermedad es baja en nuestro medio, a pesar de los grandes esfuerzos que realiza nuestro sistema de salud para mantener una mortalidad infantil a la altura de los países desarrollados.
