The contribution of social sciences to Nursing
Abstract
Introduction: Nursing is conceptualized as the synthesis of the concepts of the social, humanistic, biological, and behavioral sciences, applied to man in a broad sense for health purposes. It is necessary to plan care at the four levels of care: health promotion, disease prevention, restoration of health, and accompaniment in death.
Objective: To analyze the contribution of the social sciences to Nursing.
Methods: Systematic review, with analysis of the content of documents, original articles and reviews published from 2019 to 2024 in the Elsevier, Google Scholar, and SciELO databases. The guide question was developed using the acronym PICo. The search strategy used the descriptors in Health Sciences: Nursing, Science; Social Sciences and the Boolean operator AND. The flow diagram (PRISMA) was used for the formulation of the search strategy, 81 articles were identified and revised, 12 in Portuguese, 6 in English, and 63 in Spanish, 10 of which were useful in the evolution of the category.
Results: The analysis carried out has highlighted the significant contribution of the social sciences to the field of Nursing. This approach not only facilitates the implementation of actions, but also encourages the development of essential decision-making skills, thus promoting interdisciplinarity in nursing research.
Conclusions: The contribution of the social sciences to Nursing offers an in-depth analysis of individuals, placing them as key elements within a social fabric. This enriches the empirical discussion and goes beyond a mere epistemological contribution. This approach encourages interdisciplinarity, since no single discipline can adequately explain the complexity of the reality in the field of Nursing.
