Abstract

RESUMEN

Introducción: el empleo del epónimo en medicina fue impuesto por la tradición y el uso, lo que demostró su utilidad en la práctica clínica cotidiana, facilitó la comunicación entre pares y constituyó un justo homenaje a la sagacidad clínica y capacidad de observación de sus descubridores.
Objetivo: describir los apuntes en la historia del epónimo en Cuba.
Desarrollo: se supone que el contenido de un epónimo se conozca bien, su uso representa una economía en la comunicación médica; de no utilizarlo, en cada caso se hace una descripción relativamente extensa de la enfermedad o el signo de que se trata.
Conclusiones: el epónimo constituye una lección de la historia de la medicina que permite la comprensión de la evolución, el pasado, el presente, de la medicina universal y, el desarrollo de sus especialidades.
