Background: purpuras are hemorrhagic diseases characterized by the extravasation of blood towards tissues below the skin or the mucosa that produce spontaneous petechiae or ecchymosis. The abnormal bleeding in the oral mucosa, the skin, internal organs and other tissues occurs suddenly, excessive, spontaneously or after an irritation and puts at risk the life of the patient.
Objective: to describe a case of purple thrombocytopenic immune with oral and skin manifestations as well as its stomatologic management.
Clinical case: it is reported a case of an 80 year old male patient with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, who presented bruising on both cheeks, palate as well as in the skin of the face, both upper and lower limbs, thorax, abdomen and back. The patient was remitted to the Service of Clinical Hematology where laboratory tests were practiced. The patient was diagnosed with purple thrombocytopenic immune and was trated with steroids and vitamin C. The purpur manifestations remitted after two weeks. The patient received stomatologic treatment, taking into account local hemostatic considerations and under the supervision of medical doctor. The patient evolved favorably.
Conclusions: the oral and cutaneous manifestations of the purple should be identified by the dentist in order to introduce changes in the treatment schedule and to avoid lethal contingencies in their patients.
