Arthroscopic assisted repair of rotator cuff

Background: rotator cuff disease is one of the most common in the shoulder. Pain and functional impairment are common symptoms. Nowadays, surgical treatment is usually indicated by mini-open surgery or all arthroscopy.
Objective: to show the advantages of mini-open surgery for rotator cuff repair
Methods: a search in the databases PubMed, Hinari, SciELO and Medline was conducted through the information locator EndNote by using the words rotator cuff and rotator cuff repair, resulting in a total of 715 articles from the last five years. From them, 51 quotes were selected for review. Also, six books were consulted. This study has a level of evidence III and a recommendation grade B.
Development: conditions or elements to be considered are described despite the mode of reparation such as: biomechanics, classification, surgical principles, footprint repair or not, and factors related to failure of repair. On the other hand, the surgical technique was described by steps, taking into account anesthesia, surgical position, arthroscopic portals, and mini-open incision. At the end, complications and a rehab program were point out.
Conclusions: rotator cuff repair by mini-open surgery is a very useful semi-invasive modality of treatment with similar results to those achieved in all arthroscopic techniques.
