La orientación vocacional en residentes de Medicina General Integral

RESUMENFundamento: la orientación vocacional favorece una correcta elección de los estudios acorde a las necesidades del contexto social laboral. Para los residentes de Medicina General Integral (MGI) adquiere especial relevancia dentro de la educación médica debido a que el proceso docente se desarrolla en diversos escenarios.
Objetivo: caracterizar la orientación vocacional en residentes de MGI.
Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal en el período de febrero a marzo de 2015. El universo, que coincidió con la muestra de estudio, estuvo constituido por 58 residentes de MGI. De ellos el 51, 7 % eran de primer año y el 48, 3 % de segundo año de dicha especialidad. Se realizó un análisis documental de resoluciones normativas.
Resultados: se constató un predominio del sexo femenino con un 56, 9 %. La presencia de familiares que laboran en dicha especialidad fue encontrada en el 57, 94 % de los residentes. Respecto a los factores que influyeron en la decisión de escoger la especialidad de MGI, se apreció que el 89, 44 % de los residentes afirmaron que la escogieron por vocación y el 10, 56 % por motivos diferentes.
Conclusiones: la caracterización de los elementos asociados a la orientación vocacional en residentes de MGI permitió constatar el predominio del sexo femenino, la influencia de familiares en la orientación vocacional de dicha especialidad, así como la existencia de una variabilidad de factores decisores para obtenerla.
Background: vocational guidance promotes a correct choice of the studies according to the social and work context. It becomes really important for the residents of General Integral Medicine, as part of the medical education, since the teaching process develops in different areas.
Objective: to characterize the vocational guidance in residents of General Integral Medicine.
Methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted between February and March, 2015. The universe and the sample were composed of 58 residents of General Integral Medicine. The 51, 7 % of them were first-year students and the 48, 3 % were second-year students. A documentary analysis of the regulations was made.
Results: female sex predominated with a 56, 9 %. It was found that the 57, 94 % of the residents had relatives who work in the same specialty. Regarding the factors that influenced the decision of choosing the specialty of General Integral Medicine, it was found that the 89, 44 % of the residents had the vocation for it and the 10, 56 % chose it for other reasons.
Conclusions: the characterization of the elements associated to the vocational guidance of residents of General Integral Medicine allowed verifying the predominance of female sex, the influence of relatives on the vocational guidance to choose this specialty and the existence of a variability of decision-making factors to study it.
