La Medicina Tradicional y Natural camagüeyana: logros y deficiencias

RESUMENFundamento: recientemente se incluyó la especialidad de Medicina Tradicional y Natural en el campo médico cubano, aunque aún se duda de la eficacia de sus métodos.
Objetivos: reconocer los logros e identificar las deficiencias de la práctica de la Medicina Tradicional en Camagüey al cierre del año 2014.
Métodos: se realizó una revisión documental y entrevistas a directivos de la Medicina Tradicional en Camagüey.
Desarrollo: la Medicina Tradicional y Natural camagüeyana ha tenido logros durante los últimos diez años, pero aún se cuenta con deficiencias que obstaculizan su desarrollo.
Conclusiones: se requiere la realización de estudios con rigor científico que validen los procederes de la Medicina Tradicional y Natural, lo que contribuirá a elevar la calidad de la atención médica y permitirá que esta milenaria ciencia ocupe un lugar privilegiado dentro del arsenal médico en Cuba.
Background: the specialty of natural and traditional medicine has been recently included in the Cuban medical field. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of its methods is in doubt.
Objectives: to recognize the achievements of natural and traditional medicine and to identify its deficiencies at the end of 2014.
Methods: a documental review and interviews to directors of natural and traditional medicine cen-ters in Camagüey were made.
Development: natural and traditional medicine in Camagüey has had many achievements in the last ten years but there are still some deficiencies that impede its development.
Conclusions: the conduction of scientific-rigor studies that validate the practice of natural and traditional medicine is required. This will contribute to increase the quality of medical attention and allow that this mille-narian science is in a privileged position in the Cuban medical arsenal.
