Seguimiento de las elevaciones séricas de la alfafetoproteína en un área de salud

Abstract

Con el objetivo de valorar la utilidad que tiene la alfafetoproteína en suero materno en la práctica obstétrica se realizó un estudio descriptivo con 160 embarazadas que cursaron con elevaciones séricas de la alfafetoproteína durante el segundo trimestre del embarazo en el Policlínico Norte del municipio Camagüey en la provincia de igual nombre desde enero de 1986 hasta diciembre de 1992. El 4,3% de las elevaciones de la alfafetoproteína fue debido a la presencia de malformaciones, detectadas por ultrasonido. Se destacan entre ellas, la anencefalia. El 34.16 % de las embarazadas con alfafetoproteína elevada y ultrasonidos normales culminaron sus embarazos de forma adversa, siendo el bajo peso al nacer y las pérdidas fetales las alteraciones más frecuentes.Se concluye que la alfafetoproteína es un marcador bioquímico útil para el diagnóstico de malformaciones congénitas y de los embarazos con alto riesgo obstétrico.
