Retinopatía diabética en la asociación: diabetes mellitus- hipertensión arterial

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio de casos y controles para conocer el comportamiento de la retinopatía en la asociación diabetes Mellitus-hipertensión arterial, en cinco consultorios pertenecientes al Policlínico Rodolfo Ramírez Esquivel en Camagüey en el período comprendido de enero del 1998 a enero del 1999. El universo de estudio estuvo constituido por 70 pacientes diabéticos divididos en dos grupos de estudio de 35 pacientes cada uno: Grupo casos (diabéticos hipertensos) y Grupo control (diabéticos normotensos). Se encontró fondo de ojo normal en 28 pacientes diabéticos sin hipertensión arterial y sólo 19 en el grupo de diabéticos hipertensos, observándose además mayoritaria la incidencia de retinopatía proliferativa en el grupo de diabéticos hipertensos (37, 1%). Se concluye que la retinopatía diabética mostró aparición más temprana en el grupo de diabéticos hipertensos fuertemente vinculada a más de 10 años de evolución de la enfermedad y descontrol metabólico.
