Niveles de ácido úrico y retraso mental en niños síndrome de Down

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio para medir los niveles séricos de ácido úrico y valorar la existencia de una posible relación entre los niveles hallados y el retraso mental, en 34 pacientes con Síndrome de Down, atendidos en la consulta de Genética del Policlínico de Especialidades Pediátricas de Camagüey. La determinación de ácido úrico se realizó por el método colorimétrico de Iienri-Sobel-Kim, con sujetos en ayunas. El coeficiente de inteligencia se midió empleando el Test Psicológico Elemental (TPE) y se realizaron, además, estudios cromosómicos para conocer la etiología del Síndrome. Los datos fueron vertidos en una encuesta. La mayoría de los niños presentaron trisomía libre (82,2%), El coeficiente de inteligencia osciló entre 30 y 60 con una media de 43. El nivel de ácido úrico resultó elevado en ambos sexos. Se observó una correlación positiva discreta entre la concentración de ácido úrico y el coeficiente de inteligencia.
