Algunos problemas éticos en el manejo del enfermo terminal en la atención primaria de salud

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal para conocer algunos problemas éticos en el manejo de los enfermos terminales, en el Policlínico Centro de Camagüey en los meses de julio-agosto de 1998. Se seleccionó una muestra de 30 médicos de familia, a los que se les aplicó una encuesta que comprendía las variables: Conocimientos de los principios éticos y manejo del enfermo terminal y su familia. Los datos obtenidos fueron procesados de forma automatizada. Se encontró que el 50% de los médicos desconocía los principios éticos, el 100% conocía que el cáncer y las enfermedades degenerativas del sistema nervioso central causan enfermedad terminal, el 33, 33% revelan lo concerniente a su enfermedad a los pacientes. Se concluyó que la mayoría de los médicos no fueron preparados en su formación en cuanto a los conocimientos éticos para el manejo del enfermo terminal y no desean conocer la verdad si fueran afectados por una enfermedad terminal.
