Comportamiento de la cirugía electiva en el anciano

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio del comportamiento de las operaciones electivas en los ancianos ingresados en el servicio de cirugía general del Hospital Provincial Docente Manuel Ascunce Domenech, en el período comprendido de enero 1997 a diciembre de 1999; la edad que predominó fue de 60 a 69 años. La hernia inguinal fue la afección que más necesitó intervención quirúrgica y como enfermedad asociada de riesgo quirúrgico, se encontró la hipertensión arterial seguida de las afecciones malignas propias de la edad de los pacientes. La causa de muerte más frecuente fue el desequilibrio ácido-básico e hidromineral, aspectos que deben ser corregidos tanto en el preoperatorio como en el postoperatorio inmediato.
