Infección nosocomial en una unidad de cuidados intermedios

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio prospectivo sobre 4192 pacientes ingresados, al menos durante 24 horas en la Unidad de Cuidados Intermedios (UCIM) de nuestro hospital. Se calcularon las siguientes medidas de incidencia de infección nosocomial: incidencia acumulada, densidad de incidencia y tasas de infección asociadas a dispositivos diagnósticos-terapéuticos. La tasa anual fue de 6,5 y 7,2 por cada 100 egresos durante el año 2000 y 2001, respectivamente. Las infecciones nosocomiales más frecuentes fueron por este orden: neumonías, bacteriemias e infecciones urinarias. La tasa de neumonía asociada a respirador fue de 38,6 por 1000 días de ventilación mecánica, la de bacteriemia asociada a catéter centrovenoso de 23,4/1000 días de catéter y la de infección urinaria asociada a cateterismo vesical de 14,7/1000 días de sondaje.
