La unidad de ictus. Una posibilidad promisoria

Abstract

Las enfermedades cerebrovasculares son una importante causa de muerte y su terapéutica involucra todos los niveles de salud. Europa ha desarrollado en los últimos 10 años unidades especializadas de ictus que concentran los recursos materiales y humanos para mejorar la calidad de atención de estos pacientes Se realizó esta investigación con el objetivo de describir las posibilidades y ventajas de crear una Unidad de ictus. La Unidad ayuda a reducir el tiempo de inicio de la terapéutica, estandariza los protocolos terapéuticos y reduce el efecto perjudicial de las complicaciones y disminuye la mortalidad. La cirugía vascular de las enfermedades isquémicas y hemorrágicas puede ejercer un efecto más beneficioso y precoz en estas unidades. La Unidad de ictus es un centro de preparación de personal especializado y de desarrollo de nuevos métodos preventivos, terapéuticos y de investigación médico-quirúrgica, que mejoren la atención que reciben los pacientes con ictus, con el objetivo de elevar la expectativa de vida hasta los 80 años.
