Ingestión de cuerpos extraños. Un reto para el cirujano

Abstract

Se revisa la historia clínica de pacientes admitidos de urgencia en la sala de Cirugía General del Hospital Militar de Ejército Clínico Quirúrgico Docente de Camagüey, desde el 1ro de julio de 1989 hasta el 31 de julio de 2001. La ingestión de cuerpos extraños es una circunstancia poco frecuente en el adulto que no padece trastornos psiquiátricos. Se señalan las características de estos pacientes, las motivaciones y la conducta seguida. De las 19 historias clínicas revisadas se excluyeron cuatro por no demostrarse la ingestión de cuerpos extraños. Los 15 pacientes que se incluyeron en el estudio procedían de un centro penitenciario; comprendida la edad entre 18 y 23 años. El único motivo para la autolesión fue, llamar la atención social, y provocar la salida de la prisión. El número de objetos varió de 3 a 39, todos metálicos; el mayor, un alambre de 15 cm de longitud. Todos fueron atendidos por un psiquiatra que determinó en el 100 % afectación psíquica. Primó la conducta expectante. Sólo dos pacientes fueron operados.
