El estomatólogo general integral en la atención comunitaria de ortodoncia

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio de intervención en la población de 5 a 18 años del consultorio # 18 del área Oeste de Camagüey, para evaluar las modificaciones en el estado de salud bucal mediante la atención comunitaria de ortodoncia durante dos años de su aplicación. El universo estuvo formado por 96 pacientes, de los cuales 84 fueron encuestados, interconsultados y tratados en atención primaria o remitidos al segundo nivel. El 71, 43 % presentó maloclusiones; el grupo de edades de 8 a 10 años (40, 48 %) fue el más afectado. La atención primaria la necesitó el 51, 67 % de los casos. Se trataron 18 niños en atención primaria en los que predominaron la disfunción neuromuscular, el apiñamiento y la discrepancia hueso-diente; la mioterapia. Se lograron cinco altas ortodóncicas de primer nivel y se disminuyó la severidad de las alteraciones de los pacientes que aún están en tratamiento. Se comprobó un cambio favorable en el estado de salud de la población desde el inicio hasta la culminación del estudio con diferencia significativa.
