Enfrentamiento de la muerte por el adulto mayor con enfermedad terminal

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo con el objetivo de conocer el comportamiento del enfrentamiento de la muerte por el adulto mayor, con enfermedad terminal en el área de salud del policlínico comunitario docente Rodolfo Ramírez Esquivel de Camagüey, de enero de 2002 a enero de 2003. El universo estuvo constituido por 130 pacientes que fueron seleccionados por muestra sistemática con arranque aleatorio 1:4, a los que se les aplicó una encuesta confeccionada al efecto. Predominó el grupo de edades de 81 años y más, el sexo femenino y la escolaridad primaria; la muerte interpersonal fue la más frecuente y dentro de las fases de la agonía, la depresión. La mayor parte de los ancianos desearon morir en su hogar, los familiares generalmente manifestaron sobreprotección y permisividad hacia ellos, mientras que estos presentaron depresión, ansiedad, miedo y dependencia hacia sus familiares.
