Alteraciones bucales en pacientes geriátricos rehabilitados con prótesis parciales

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo en las clínicas estomatológicas Ismael Clark y Mascaró y La Vigía en la ciudad de Camagüey desde noviembre de 2000 a mayo de 2004 con 128 pacientes geriátricos portadores de prótesis parcial pertenecientes a los consultorios 36, 38, 39, 40, 43 y 63 del área de salud Oeste y 1, 2 y 58 del área Norte con requisitos de inclusión específicos. El proceder investigativo se estructuró en cuatro fases de estudio con el objetivo de identificar los pacientes examinados según edad y sexo, determinar las alteraciones clínicas bucales más frecuentes relacionadas con las prótesis parciales según grupo etáreo, sexo, tiempo de uso y tipo de aparato protésico. Los resultados obtenidos enmarcaron al sexo femenino con el 66, 47 % y los pacientes entre 60 y 69 años como los más numerosos y representantes de la mayor cantidad de afectaciones bucales tales como desgastes dentarios con el 78, 89 %, alteraciones parodontales con el 76, 54 %, caries dentales con el 70, 30 % y reabsorción ósea con el 64, 06 %. Predominaron las prótesis con más de 10 años de uso y los aparatos parciales acrílicos fueron los más dañinos.
