Traumatismos oculares perforantes en la infancia

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo con el objetivo de determinar el comportamiento de los traumatismos oculares perforantes en la infancia en el Hospital Pediátrico Provincial Docente Eduardo Agramonte Piña de Camagüey, desde enero de 2001 a enero de 2003. El universo se estudió íntegramente y estuvo constituido por 46 pacientes. El estudio demostró un predominio de los pacientes de cinco a diez años de edad y del sexo masculino. El ojo más afectado fue el derecho, con un 54, 3 % de los pacientes. Los agentes lesionantes más frecuentes fueron el alambre y el palo (21, 7 %). El 38, 4 % de los pacientes desarrolló una catarata traumática como complicación. Fueron intervenidos quirúrgicamente antes de las 24 h de sucedido el trauma 39 pacientes (84, 7 %). La agudeza visual al egreso fue buena en la mayoría de los pacientes.
