Algunas reflexiones sobre el tabú a la palabra cáncer

Abstract

Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema del tabú al cáncer por considerarlo uno de los causantes más importantes de la llegada tarde de los pacientes al médico y el rechazo a la invitación de someterse a los estudios de los programas de control del cáncer y por lo tanto se realiza un diagnóstico y una terapéutica tardía que atenta contra la supervivencia y la cura de los pacientes con cáncer. Nuestra idiosincrasia, cultura y hábitos son trasladados de generación en generación y con ellos los tabúes y malos hábitos de nuestra sociedad a pesar del desarrollo científico actual. Se plantean reflexiones y una interpretación cíclica de este problema a pesar del alto nivel educacional de nuestro pueblo. La importancia de este tema y su actualidad está dado por plantearse que para el próximo quinquenio será la primera causa de muerte en nuestro país y éste es un tema que bloquea la acción en lucha contra el cáncer.
