Infecciones relacionadas con el uso de catéter venoso en la unidad de cuidados intensivos pediátricos

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo sobre las complicaciones infecciosas relacionadas al uso de catéteres venosos centrales; en 65 pacientes de un mes a 15 años, ambos sexos, ingresados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos del Hospital Pediátrico Universitario de Camagüey; desde enero de 1998 a diciembre de 2004. Las complicaciones infecciosas más frecuentes fueron: la colonización de la punta del catéter en 30 pacientes y la sepsis relacionada con catéter en 20 pacientes, las que se reportaron con mayor frecuencia en las inserciones femorales del catéter (50, 7 %) y cuando la duración del abordaje fue superior a los seis días. Las bacterias del grupo de las Enterobacteriaceas con 23 aislamientos y los Stafilococos con 17 aislamientos fueron los patógenos que más se aislaron. La Klebsiella sp con 13 aislamientos resultó ser el germen más frecuentemente aislado independiente del sitio anatómico de inserción del catéter.
