Síndrome de Guillain-Barré. Actualización acerca del diagnóstico y tratamiento

Abstract

Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica donde se abordaron los principales cambios ocurridos en los últimos años en relación con la inmunopatogénesis, formas clínicas, diagnóstico y tratamiento. Se comentaron los aspectos históricos, principales métodos diagnósticos aceptados internacionalmente, las medidas terapéuticas aprobadas por la evidencia y algunos de los principales retos y controversias relacionadas con el diagnóstico y el tratamiento. El síndrome de Guillain-Barré (SGB) es una enfermedad autoinmune, frecuente y controlable aunque potencialmente mortal, muchos de sus síntomas y signos pueden confundirse con varias afecciones neurológicas, por lo que su diagnóstico precoz es de suma importancia para instaurar en breve plazo las medidas específicas destinadas a preservar la vida, sobre todo en niños y pacientes jóvenes. En ausencia de un marcador biológico más específico para el diagnóstico se recomienda utilizar los criterios clínicos, así como las medidas terapéuticas de la Academia Americana de Neurología.
