Degeneración macular relacionada con la edad

Abstract

La degeneración macular relacionada con la edad es una de las causas de ceguera en los pacientes mayores de 60 años. La misma se caracteriza por un número de síntomas como la disminución de la visión, metamorfopsias, macropsias, micropsias, escotoma central. Es una enfermedad que debe ser diagnosticada a tiempo porque puede conducir a la ceguera. Se clasifica en atrófica o seca y exudativa o húmeda, la húmeda o exudativa es la de peor pronóstico. Con el avance de la tecnología en Oftalmología se ha logrado detener con nuevos métodos de tratamiento como la terapia fotodinámica y los antiangiogénicos: Macugen, Lucentis, Avastin, +esteroides). Esta enfermedad aún representa un problema de salud mayor y produce substancial ceguera. Por todo lo anterior es que se decidió realizar la presente revisión bibliográfica.
