Abstract

RESUMEN

Fundamento: la prevención de la violencia en su marco general y familiar es una prioridad que exige un conocimiento exhaustivo de su magnitud; ya que es observada como un asunto de salud pública por su impacto negativo en la sociedad.
Objetivo: caracterizar el comportamiento de la violencia intrafamiliar contra el adulto mayor en el municipio de Nuevitas.
Método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo durante el año 2006. De un universo de dos mil ciento seis, setenta y cinco fueron maltratados constituyendo la muestra. La fuente primaria fue una encuesta y la ficha familiar.
Resultados: el 3,58% de los senescentes recibieron violencia, de ellos 46,67% con edades entre sesenta a sesenta y nueve años, prevaleció el 60% del sexo femenino. El 86,67% correspondió a familias disfuncionales. Las características psicosociales y la cultura sanitaria fueron malas en el 64% y el 34,67% respectivamente. El maltrato que predominó fue por negligencia familiar.
Conclusiones: la incidencia en el adulto mayor maltratado en el municipio fue muy por debajo de las estadísticas revisadas.
