Abstract

RESUMEN

Fundamento: cualquier tratamiento protésico parcial fijo definitivo, necesita de una técnica y material adecuado para lograr un acercamiento íntimo entre la estructura dentaria y la restauración. Esto ha dado lugar a búsquedas del cemento ideal, pues el 50% del éxito en la longevidad de las restauraciones estéticas definitivas se le atribuye a la cementación. En estos últimos años, los ionómeros de vidrio constituyen los materiales que más han experimentado cambios para mejorar sus propiedades. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica acerca del origen, clasificación, formas de presentación, composición, reacción de fraguado, propiedades, indicaciones y técnica de cementado. Esto constituirá una guía para el protesista, pues este material de excelentes cualidades es poco conocido en clínica dental.
