Síndrome Cardiorrenal
Abstract
ABSTRACTBackground: the cardio renal syndrome explains the evident physiopathology relationship between heart and kidney.
Objective: to accomplish an updated bibliographic revision on this syndrome, whose first mentions in literature were performed twenty years ago.
Method: a revision of the last ten years literature was carried. This study included 1034 published articles from Pub Med, Medline, Lilacs and Scielo by means of the information forager Endnote, with descriptions, cardio renal syndrome, concept, epidemiology, physiopathology, classification, prognosis, treatment. 33 bibliographic revisions were used for writing this article; 15 of them were original articles, 16 revision papers and two case presentations.
Development: the historical background is briefly explained and the author considers the most appropriate definition the one which states that “in heart and kidney disorders the acute or chronic dysfunction of one of these organs can produce acute or chronic dysfunction on the other one”. Its onset is frequent and Ronco's five types classification, the integral and multidisciplinary management are also discussed.
Conclusions: cardio renal syndrome is a frequent phenomenon, but not yet clear-cut neither recognized. A better knowledge about its physiopathology and natural evolution would make possible a more proper use of the therapeutic options for each individual patient. The therapeutic emerging management of the cardio renal syndrome with both organs functional improvement may help to achieve a better prognosis for this group of patients.
Key words: Cardio renal Syndrome, concept, epidemiology, physiopathology, classification, prognosis, treatment
