Morbidity and mortality in the Intensive Emergency Care Unit. Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital. 2022-2024
Abstract
Introduction: Morbidity and mortality in the Emergent Intensive Care Unit is high and diverse. Every day the percentage of patients admitted to this ward increases, in addition to the diversity of acute and chronic decompensated conditions. At the university hospital. Manuel Ascunce Domenech are registered annually, large number of income for different causes, both urgent and emerging; however, statistical analyses sometimes do not show the importance of knowing the morbidity and mortality in these rooms to foresee timely and effective medical actions. It is necessary to know the casuistry present in the intensive and emerging care room of the hospital center to deepen statistical studies and health research.
Objective: To determine morbidity and mortality in the Emergent Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital. Manuel Ascunce Domenech during the period 2022-2024.
Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out with the aim of determining the conditions treated in the room during the study period. The variables were taken into account: number of admissions, number of discharges, number of deaths, Diagnosis by Ischemic Heart Disease, Myocardial Infarction, Cerebrovascular Disease, other causes and the Stay in it.
Results: During the study period, 8 133 patients were admitted, for 3.70 % of deaths. The diagnosis at admission of Cerebrovascular Disease, Ischemic Heart Disease, predominated for 11 % and 10 % respectively.
Conclusions: Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular Diseases reach higher incidence in the Emergent Intensive Care Unit. Being the percentage of deceased directly proportional to the stay in the room.
