Historiographic investigation of clinical radiographic elements evolution in adult patients with bruxism and periodontal disease
Abstract
Introduction: Periodontal diseases and bruxism represent problems of high prevalence with significant impact on function and quality of life. In this scenario, the clinical history acquires a central value as a medical-legal document and scientific tool, by systematically integrating clinical, radiographic and functional data of the patient.
Objective: To determine historiographic investigation of clinical-radiographic elements evolved in adult patients with bruxism and periodontal disease.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study with historiographic research approach was carried out in the Stomatological Clinic Ismael Clark y Mascaró, Camagüey, during the period January 2020 to January 2025. The universe consisted of 142 medical records of patients over 18 years of age treated in a periodontology clinic. We selected a sample of 47 medical records that presented as inclusion criteria patients with at least one clinical-radiographic manifestation compatible with bruxism and periodontal disease.
Results: It is important to manage for the consideration of the authors three stages that allow to discuss the results with scientific arguments and of practical value acquired in the specialized clinical activity. Regarding the clinical signs of periodontal disease in bruxopathic patients, gingival bleeding was present in 47 histories for 100% of the clinical histories investigated. According to the radiographic signs of periodontal disease in bruxopathic patients, the widening of the periodontal ligament space and horizontal bone loss was present in 47 histories for 100% of the clinical histories investigated.
Conclusions: The historiographic investigation made possible to determine the clinical-radiographic elements evolved in adult patients with bruxism and periodontal disease. Likewise, it showed that the updating of elements of it favors a more comprehensive understanding of the bruxopathic patient with periodontal disease.
