Introduction: Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Cuba and the leading cause in Camagüey until 2023. Its control requires strategic planning regarding the use of medical resources. Natural and Traditional Medicine (NTM) offers a range of procedures and modalities that can influence the prevention, progression, and treatment of cancer, or improve the patient's quality of life; however, these elements have not been widely disseminated. Objective: To demonstrate the limitations of using NTM modalities for the prevention, progression, treatment, or improvement of the quality of life of cancer patients. Methods: A literature review was conducted to identify which Natural and Traditional Medicine modalities can be used in cancer patients. Scientific publications, books, and pamphlets related to the use of Natural and Traditional Medicine in cancer patients were reviewed. Results: The modalities with therapeutic limitations in cancer in general were identified. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, apitherapy, homeopathy, flower therapy, ozone therapy, medical hydrology, helio-thalassotherapy, traditional exercises, Nutritional counseling, and Ayurvedic medicine are the modalities of Natural and Traditional Medicine in Cuba. Each of these has limitations in its use with cancer patients, either because it interferes with conventional treatment or causes adverse reactions. Conclusions: Although Natural and Traditional Medicine modalities have applications in cancer patients, the limitations of each must be considered to avoid iatrogenic effects.
