Abstract

Introduction: The areas of regenerative medicine have grown in recent years, initially with the advent of "stem cells." The ethical approach in this branch allows for comprehensive medical care supported by qualified human resources, at a sustainable cost. Cuba has been at the forefront in the use of regenerative medicine in chronic non-communicable diseases. In the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, it has been applied in skin regeneration and periodontal disease. These therapies from an interdisciplinary consultation represent a paradigmatic change by prioritizing the functional restoration of damaged tissue through integrated approaches; it also expresses a scientific model that improves clinical results and promises to address previously untreatable diseases, through personalized solutions; for this reason, a territorial interdisciplinary consultation on oral and maxillofacial regenerative therapies is proposed.
Objective: To propose a territorial interdisciplinary consultation on oral and maxillofacial regenerative therapies in the province of Camagüey.
Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted to select methodological aspects for a regional interdisciplinary consultation evaluating adult patients with endodontic lesions, periodontal disease, and bone, cartilage, and soft tissue defects at the Ismael Clark Mascaró Teaching Dental Clinic in Camagüey province. The working group consisted of eleven medical professionals; focus groups and theoretical methods such as documentary review, historical-logical analysis and synthesis, and induction-deduction were used.
Results: A work algorithm was created for medical-dentistry care, which developed the ordering of the substantive elements of regenerative medicine in the Cuban context, from the unification of criteria by interdisciplinary teams.
Conclusions: The territorial interdisciplinary consultation on oral and maxillofacial regenerative therapies in Camagüey is proposed by a scientific guiding document in Cuban Medical Sciences.
