Meniscal radial injuries
Abstract
Introduction: Meniscus injuries are common in young adults, especially those who practice some type of sports activity with knee rotation. Among them, one of the most common of which is the radial configuration. Objective: Update knowledge of the most important aspects of radial meniscus injuries.
Objective: Update knowledge of the most important aspects of radial meniscus injuries.
Methods: The search and analysis of the information was carried out over a period of 61 days (March 1, 2024 to April 30, 2024) and the following words were used: meniscal lesions, radial meniscal lesions, hashstag suture, radial tears, meniscal tears AND meniscal suture. Based on the information obtained, a bibliographic review of a total of 193 articles published in various databases was carried out using the search manager and reference manager EndNote, of which 30 selected citations were used to carry out the review.
Results: The most general aspects of the anatomy of both the medial and lateral menisci are mentioned, as well as the distribution of their collagen fibers. Reference is made to a classification system that guides behavior in each case. The surgical treatment modalities and the route of repair are described according to the different advantages of the procedure.
Conclusions: Radial configuration injuries of the menisci have very specific characteristics in terms of anatomy and location. The diagnosis is based on three fundamental pillars: Clinical, imaging and arthroscopic. The treatment of choice is surgical and the modality depends on the severity of the rupture.
