Characterization of the mortality in burnings patients

Abstract

Introduction: The mortality of the burned patients hospitalized in the developed and developing countries is variable.
Objective: To characterize the mortality in the burned patients.
Methods: An observational, descriptive and retrospective study was conducted in burn patients admitted to the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital in Camagüey province from 2017 to 2022. The studied universe was constituted of 52 adult patients. Direct causes of death were studied as a dependent variable; age groups, sex, medical-legal cause, prognostic index of burns and hospital stay as independent variables.
Results: The hypovolemic shock turned out to be the direct cause of main death in this series, present in 22 dead persons for 42.32 % of the studied cases. The feminine sex predominated in this study with 32 dead persons for 61.54 % of the cases and the etiology medical legal suicide the largely present between women as a group (24) for the 46.15 %. Most of dead persons (29) were extreme critical (55.78 %), and the fatal leading cause in this group was the hypovolemic shock, present in 19 of the perish the 36.55 % represented and in the critics (10) the 19.23 %, in this group the fatal leading cause was the septic shock, 7 perish stop the 13.46 %. The dead persons that had a stay the less from 24 hours to one day, the hypovolemic shock was cause Death's main trigger with 13 dead persons for a 25 %.
Conclusions: The extension and depth of the injuries influence the mortality of these injured persons. The hypovolemic shock keeps on being the main cause of death.
