The research problem
Abstract
Introduction: One of the main difficulties for first-time researchers is writing the scientific problem. A research problem determines the need to carry out an investigative process to clarify an unknown aspect of reality; it is the starting point of all scientific research. It represents a specific issue of a research topic, which generates dissatisfaction, incomprehension, or a difficulty that requires an explanation or solution.
Objective: To provide an orientation on how to carry out the exposition of the research problem.
Methods: A literature review was carried out by searching the following databases: TESEO, PubMed, Scopus, Latindex, SciELo, Redalycs, Hinari and Dialnet. Twenty-three documents were found that dealt with the research problem, 22 of which were between the years 2020-2024.
Results: Reference is made to the definition, characteristics, and structure of the research problem, and the relationship between the research problem, research scopes, objectives, and title. Finally, it was pointed the frequent errors that are repeated in the writing of the problem.
Conclusions: The exposition of the research problem is decisive in an investigative study, it occupies a preponderant place due to its particular relation with the rest of the components of that process, and their correct formulation avoids deviations from the process and facilitates the solution to the problem under investigation.
