Platelet functionality of autologous platelet-rich plasma with the use of epinephrine as an agonist
Abstract
Introduction: Light transmission aggregometry consists of adding an agonist to the patient's platelet-rich plasma and measuring the aggregation of platelets, which is detected thanks to an optical detection system.
Objective: To determine platelet functionality through aggregation with epinephrine as an agonist in platelet-rich plasma samples by measuring optical density.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. For platelet aggregation, epinephrine was used as an agonist. The optical density was measured on samples in apparently healthy subjects with a normal platelet range (150-450 X109/L) for three days and three temperatures. The aggregating substance was epinephrine, with a concentration of 2.5 x 10-5 M quantitatively.
Results: The average optical density in platelet aggregation induced by epinephrine as an agonist at three times and three temperatures showed significant differences (p=0.02-0.05). Where the agonist was not used, the significance was greater than 0.05.
Conclusions: The functionality of autologous platelet-rich plasma was evidenced with a platelet aggregation study; these results allowed us to have a complete and general vision of the functionality of the final product.
